On the way from Shkodër to Tamara, I expected a normal mountain drive. Instead, I got one of those routes that makes you slow down without even thinking about it. The landscape keeps changing, and the closer you get to Tamara, the more dramatic it feels.
Leqet e Hotit: The View That Made Me Stop
About 20 minutes before reaching Tamara, you pass Leqet e Hotit and it’s the kind of place you can’t ignore. The road curves through the mountains in a way that looks unreal from above. Those turns are so clean and winding they almost look like a snake cutting through the landscape. I stopped there just to look, and it ended up being the best decision of the day.
A Beer, Two Belgian Travelers, and a Theth Conversation
While I was there, I met two tourists from Belgium. They were sitting and enjoying the view with a beer, completely relaxed. When they realized I’m from Montenegro and that I was exploring Albania and Montenegro for two months, they invited me to join them.
They asked me about places to visit and told me they really wanted to see Theth. I had been there the year before, so I shared what I remembered from my trip: I paid €30 for a night with breakfast included, and a coffee was around 100 lek (about €1). But I also told them the most important part the feeling of Theth. The view is breathtaking, and it’s one of those places that stays in your mind long after you leave.
We had a beer together mine cost 150 lek and then I continued my drive to Tamara. But that short stop changed the whole trip for me. It wasn’t just the scenery. It was the moment: the view, the conversation, and that simple travel connection you get when you stop at the right place at the right time.
